Heaven opens
Jesus is baptized by John in the Jordan; the Spirit descends and the Father's voice declares Him His beloved Son.
Why was Jesus baptized?
John’s baptism was one of repentance, which Jesus didn’t need. He receives it “to fulfill all righteousness,” identifying himself with the sinners he came to save.
The Trinity on stage
It is one of the rare passages where Father, Son and Spirit appear together: the Son in the water, the Spirit as a dove, the Father’s voice declaring “This is My beloved Son.”
