You must be born again
A teacher of Israel seeks Jesus in the dark and hears the greatest explanation of God's love.
A teacher who came to learn
Nicodemus was a Pharisee and a member of the Sanhedrin, the religious elite. Coming “at night” suggests caution, and perhaps the spiritual darkness of someone who doesn’t yet understand.
Born again
Jesus shifts the conversation from doing to being reborn: entering the Kingdom isn’t a makeover, it’s new life “from above,” the work of the Spirit. It is in this dialogue that John 3:16 appears.
The quiet arc
Nicodemus reappears defending Jesus before the council (John 7) and finally bringing spices to bury him (John 19), a faith that matures from the shadows into the light of day.
