Water into wine
The first sign, at a wedding feast, reveals Jesus' glory.
When the wine runs out
At a wedding feast, running out of wine would be a public embarrassment for the family. Mary brings the problem to Jesus: 'They have no more wine'.
The first sign
Jesus has six stone jars filled with water, about 500 liters, and turns it into the best wine of the feast. John calls this 'the first of His signs', by which 'He thus revealed His glory'.
A God who rejoices
The first miracle isn't at a tragedy, but at a celebration. Jesus honors marriage, joy and family.
