Jesus Calms the Storm
A Bible story for kids ages 3–8. Read it together, do the actions and talk at the end.
In the evening, Jesus told His friends, “Let us cross to the other side.” And they all got into the boat.
👉 Pretend you're rowing: row, row!
Other little boats went along too. The water was calm and the boat rocked gently.
👉 Sway your body slowly, back and forth.
Jesus was tired. He went to the back of the boat, lay down on a cushion and fell asleep. Zzz…
👉 Pretend to sleep: zzz, zzz!
Suddenly: whooosh! A super strong wind came! The waves crashed into the boat, and water was coming in.
👉 Make the sound of the wind: whoooosh!
The friends got very scared and woke Jesus up: Teacher, don't You care about us?
👉 Make a scared face… and then take a deep breath.
Jesus got up and spoke firmly to the wind and the sea. “Silence!” He commanded. “Be still!”
👉 Raise your hand and say it firmly: Silence! Be still!
Right away, the wind stopped. The waves stopped. Everything got very quiet. Shhh…
👉 Put your finger on your lips and say shhh, very softly.
Jesus asked, “Why are you so afraid?” He had been with them the whole time!
The friends said to one another, “Who is this, that even the wind and the sea obey Him?” It's Jesus!
👉 Clap your hands for Jesus!
Verse: “Who is this, that even the wind and the sea obey Him?” (Mark 4:41)
To talk about with your child
- What makes you scared? Shall we tell Jesus about it?
- How do you feel knowing Jesus is in charge even of the wind?
Mission of the week: When you feel scared, take a deep breath and whisper: Jesus is with me!
