Ruth, the Faithful Friend
A Bible story for kids ages 3–8. Read it together, do the actions and talk at the end.
Naomi lived far from home, in the land of Moab. Her husband and her two sons died, and she was very sad.
Naomi decided to go back to Bethlehem, her hometown. Ruth, who had been married to her son, didn't want to leave her alone.
Ruth hugged Naomi and said, “your people will be my people, and your God will be my God.”
👉 Give someone a big, strong hug, like Ruth hugged Naomi!
The two of them walked together all the way to Bethlehem. They arrived right at barley harvest time. Barley is a grain like wheat.
👉 Walk in place really slowly, like on a long road!
Ruth went to the field to pick up the grain that fell on the ground, so they would have food. She worked from morning till afternoon!
👉 Bend down and pick up pretend grain from the floor: one, two, three!
The field belonged to Boaz, a kind man. He told Ruth: you can stay here and drink our water!
Boaz had his workers drop grain on purpose for Ruth. She went home with a big pile of barley!
👉 Fill up your arms like you're carrying a big pile of grain!
Boaz took care of Ruth and Naomi. He married Ruth, and God gave them a baby: Obed!
Naomi held her grandson in her arms, so happy! Obed was King David's grandfather. God turned sadness into joy!
👉 Rock your arms like you're holding a baby: hush, little baby!
Verse: “wherever you go, I will go” (Ruth 1:16)
