Peter Walks on the Water

A Bible story for kids ages 3–8. Read it together, do the actions and talk at the end.

Jesus asked His friends to get into the boat and go ahead of Him to the other side of the sea.
👉 Pretend you're rowing: row, row!
Jesus went up the mountain alone to pray. He loves talking with the Father.
👉 Fold your little hands and say a short prayer.
At night, the wind blew hard. Whooo! The waves rocked the little boat back and forth.
👉 Rock your body back and forth, like the boat!
Then they saw someone walking on the sea! It was Jesus. He said, “Take courage! It is I. Do not be afraid.”
“Lord, if it is You,” Peter said, “command me to come to You on the water.” Jesus said, “Come.”
👉 Wave your hand: come!
Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water! Step, step, step… Peter was going to Jesus!
👉 Walk in place, nice and slow, like Peter!
But Peter looked at the strong wind, got scared and began to sink. He cried out, “Lord, save me!”
Right away, Jesus reached out His hand and caught Peter. Jesus did not let Peter sink!
👉 Reach out your hand like Jesus and hold the hand of someone near you!
When they got into the boat, the wind stopped. Everyone said, “Truly You are the Son of God!”
👉 Be very quiet, like the wind that stopped… shhh.

Today's truth: When we are afraid, we can look to Jesus. He is near and holds our hand.

Verse: “Take courage! It is I. Do not be afraid.” (Matthew 14:27)
