The Loaves and the Fish

A Bible story for kids ages 3–8. Read it together, do the actions and talk at the end.

  1. A huge crowd followed Jesus. They saw Jesus heal the sick and wanted to stay close to Him.

  2. Jesus went up on a mountain and sat with His friends. From up there, He saw lots of people coming.

👉 Put your hand over your eyes and look far away!

  3. Jesus asked Philip, “Where can we buy bread for these people to eat?” There were so many people!

  4. Philip did the math: even with lots of money, it wouldn't be enough for everyone to eat a little bite!

👉 Scratch your head and think: now what?

  5. Andrew said, “Here is a boy with five barley loaves and two small fish.”

👉 Show five fingers for the loaves and two for the fish!

  6. Jesus said, “Have the people sit down.” There was lots of grass. Just the men were about five thousand!

👉 Sit on the floor, nice and quiet!

  7. Jesus took the loaves and thanked God. Then He shared, and shared, and shared… and it never ran out!

👉 Put your hands together and say: thank You, God!

  8. It was the same with the fish. Everyone ate as much as they wanted. Yum, yum! Full little tummies!

👉 Rub your tummy and say: yum, yum!

  9. The friends gathered up the leftover pieces and filled twelve baskets! There was much more left than at the start!

👉 Count the baskets up to twelve!

Today's truth: In Jesus' hands, a little becomes a lot. He takes care of what we need.

Verse: “Then Jesus took the loaves and the fish, gave thanks, and distributed” (John 6:11)
