Moses and the Open Sea
A Bible story for kids ages 3–8. Read it together, do the actions and talk at the end.
God's people left Egypt, free! Moses led the way, and God went ahead in a great cloud.
👉 March in place: one, two, one, two!
They camped right next to the sea. But Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, changed his mind.
Pharaoh came after them with horses and chariots. Clippety-clop, clippety-clop! The people were very scared.
👉 Slap your legs really fast, like horses: clippety-clop, clippety-clop!
Moses told the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the LORD’s salvation.” God was going to save them!
👉 Stand really firm, with your feet planted on the ground!
God's cloud stood between the people and the Egyptians. On one side, dark; on the other, light all night long!
God told Moses to lift up his staff and stretch out his hand over the sea.
👉 Raise your arm up high, like Moses!
A strong wind blew all night: whoooosh! The sea opened up, and the ground in the middle was nice and dry!
👉 Put your hands together and open them slowly, like the sea opening!
The people walked through the middle of the sea, on dry ground! The water stood like a wall, on the right and on the left.
👉 Walk around the room looking one way and then the other: what a wall of water!
On the other side, everyone was safe! The people saw what God did and trusted Him. Hallelujah!
👉 Jump and celebrate: Hal-le-lu-jah!
Verse: “The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.” (Exodus 14:14)

- Have you ever been really scared? What helped you?
- Why didn't the people need to be afraid?
Mission of the week: When you feel scared, take a deep breath and whisper: God fights for me! Teach this to someone in your family.
