The Magi Follow the Star
A Bible story for kids ages 3–8. Read it together, do the actions and talk at the end.
Far away, in the east, some wise men called Magi studied the sky every night.
👉 Make binoculars with your hands and look at the sky!
One day, they saw a bright star. It was the sign: a very special King had been born!
👉 Open and close your hands: twinkle, twinkle!
They climbed onto their camels and traveled far, far away, bringing gifts for the King.
👉 Sway your body like you're riding a camel: clop, clop!
In Jerusalem, they asked, “Where is the One who has been born King of the Jews?”
👉 Make a searching face: where's the King?
King Herod was worried. The teachers explained: God's Word says the King would be born in Bethlehem!
👉 Point straight ahead: to Bethlehem!
The Magi set off, and… look! The star went ahead of them, showing the way!
👉 Follow the star across the sky with your finger!
The star stopped right over the place where the Child was. They were very, very happy!
👉 Jump for joy three times!
They went into the house and saw the Child Jesus with Mary, His mother. They knelt down and worshiped Jesus!
👉 Kneel down and say: Jesus, I love You!
They opened their treasures and gave gifts: gold, frankincense and myrrh. Frankincense and myrrh are sweet-smelling perfumes!
👉 Sniff a pretend perfume: mmmm!
God warned the Magi in a dream, and they went home by another route, kept safe by God.
👉 Pretend to sleep… and wake up with a big smile!
Verse: “We saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him” (Matthew 2:2)
To talk about with your child
- If you were one of the Magi, what gift would you bring Jesus?
- How can we worship Jesus today?
Mission of the week: Draw a really big star and show it to someone, telling them that Jesus is the King.
