The Walls of Jericho
A Bible story for kids ages 3–8. Read it together, do the actions and talk at the end.
God's people came near Jericho, a city with enormous walls. The gates were shut tight!
👉 Stretch your arms up high: what a giant wall!
God spoke to Joshua, the leader of the people: I have a plan for you!
👉 Put your hand behind your ear to hear the plan!
The plan was different: walk around the city once a day, for six days. And no shouting!
👉 March in place: one, two, one, two!
Seven priests walked in front of the ark, God's special chest, blowing trumpets made of rams' horns.
👉 Make the trumpet sound: toot-toot-toooot!
And the people? Everyone stayed quiet, without a peep. All you could hear were footsteps and trumpets.
👉 Finger on your lips: shhh! Now march on tiptoe.
On the seventh day, they got up very early and marched around the city seven times! Let's count together!
👉 Count the laps on your fingers: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7!
On the seventh time around, the trumpets blew, and Joshua said, “Shout! For the LORD has given you the city!”
👉 Give a long, loud shout: heeeeey!
The people shouted really loud, and… KA-BOOM! The wall fell flat to the ground!
👉 Plop down and sit on the floor: boom!
It wasn't muscle power. It was God! The people trusted and obeyed, and God took care of everything.
👉 Clap your hands for God!
The LORD was with Joshua. And God is with you too, in every little step!
👉 Take one step forward and say: God is with me!
Verse: “So the LORD was with Joshua” (Joshua 6:27)
To talk about with your child
- Why did the people keep marching, even before they saw the wall fall?
- Who do you trust when something seems too big?
Mission of the week: When someone at home asks you to do something, obey right away and happily, like Joshua's people.
