Elijah and the Ravens

A Bible story for kids ages 3–8. Read it together, do the actions and talk at the end.

  1. Elijah was a prophet, someone who brings God's messages. He warned: there will be no rain for a long, long time!

👉 Look at the sky and search for a cloud: none!

  2. God took care of Elijah. He told him to hide by a little brook called Cherith.

👉 Make the sound of water: blub, blub, blub!

  3. God said, “I have commanded the ravens to feed you there.” Ravens are smart black birds!

👉 Flap your wings like a raven: caw, caw!

  4. And that's what happened! Morning and evening, the ravens brought Elijah bread and meat. What a special delivery!

👉 Fly around the room delivering a pretend piece of bread!

  5. One day, the brook dried up, because there was no rain. But God already had another plan to take care of Elijah!

👉 Wipe the sweat off your forehead: phew, it's hot!

  6. God sent Elijah to the town of Zarephath. There, a widow, a mom with no husband, was gathering sticks.

👉 Bend down and pick up pretend sticks!

  7. Elijah asked for water and a little bread. She said: I only have a handful of flour and a little oil.

👉 Show a tiny little handful with your hand.

  8. Elijah said, “Do not be afraid.” God promised: the flour and the oil will not run out!

👉 Take a deep breath and say: I'm not afraid!

  9. She trusted and made the little bread. And, day after day, the flour didn't run out and the oil didn't run dry!

👉 Stir the bread dough: stir, stir, stir!

  10. Elijah, the woman and her son ate for many days. God took care of all of them!

👉 Rub your tummy: yum, yum, thank You, God!

Today's truth: God knows what you need and takes care of you every single day.

Verse: “The jar of flour was not exhausted and the jug of oil did not run dry” (1 Kings 17:16)
